Description: Our monitoring system reported that this service is back to normal operation.
Status: Resolved
Impact: Minor | Started At: Dec. 15, 2021, 7:37 a.m.
Description: During usual update we had a plan to roll out database index optimizations. Timetracker for Azure DevOps shares codebase with on-prem version and we reuse same migrations for both editions. Usually we apply migrations to databases not on the release date and do not do it during business hours, what we did with this update too. But accidentally one migration that recreates one of the large indexes was pushed to our production server, that caused high load on database, successive application hangs and restarts. We had to apply migrations manually, stop application several times during this event. Actions above caused inaccessibility of Timetracker within around 30 minutes. Actions taken: We are working on the procedure to prevent such migrations being applied by application in the future.
