Description: This incident has been resolved.
Status: Resolved
Impact: Minor | Started At: May 15, 2023, 5:37 p.m.
Description: The incident today impact critical backend servers of the GalleyApplication from 6:30am PT to 7:15am PT. During a common resizing of a nodegroup's server machine type the change caused the destruction and attempt to rebuild it instead of a modification. This was until now unseen behavior introduced by the recent AWS release of a new version of kubernetes. The new version release of kubernetes made the existing version running on the cluster unsupported and require a complete upgrade of the cluster kubernetes version before the nodegroup could be recreated. The actions used today were a common and tested practice and the new availability of a kubernetes release had never caused this problem in the past. We are evaluating the procedures and policies whereby we keep current and within X versions of the latest supported AWS kubernetes version.
Status: Postmortem
Impact: Critical | Started At: April 27, 2023, 2:01 p.m.
